Enduring Fraternity: The Unbreakable Emirati-Omani Ties
The UAE is joining Oman in celebrating its 55th National Day under the slogan "Oman is part of us and we are part of them." This celebration shows how deep the ties run between these two Gulf neighbors, built on decades of shared history and mutual respect that continues to grow stronger under current leadership.
Across the UAE, streets are decorated with Omani flags and banners expressing love and appreciation for Oman and its people. National landmarks light up in the colors of the Omani flag, while airports and border crossings welcome Omani visitors with greeting messages and symbolic gifts.
**A Model Partnership**
The UAE-Oman relationship stands out as an example of how Gulf cooperation should work. Both countries share similar views on regional security, stability, and sustainable development. They coordinate closely in regional and international forums, always keeping Gulf and Arab interests in mind.
What makes this partnership special is that it goes beyond just mutual interests. The relationship is built on historical and social connections that run deep in both societies. This foundation was laid by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sultan Qaboos bin Said, and today's leaders continue building on that legacy.
The two countries have signed numerous agreements covering all sectors, from economics and trade to culture and education. These deals create stability and growth opportunities for both nations.
**Historic Milestones**
The relationship between these countries goes back generations, but several key moments shaped modern ties. The historic 1968 meeting between Sheikh Zayed and Sultan Qaboos set the tone for decades of cooperation.
In 1991, Sheikh Zayed's visit to Oman led to the formation of a joint high committee. This body has been crucial in enhancing cooperation across economics, trade, culture, education, labor, communications, and transport. It also opened new doors for joint investments.
More recently, President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed's September 2022 visit to Oman marked a new chapter. The trip resulted in 16 agreements and memorandums covering economic, scientific, cultural, political, and security cooperation.
Sultan Haitham bin Tariq's April 2024 visit to the UAE gave the strategic partnership another boost. The leaders signed deals in vital areas including investment, renewable energy, sustainability, railways, technology, and education.
**Shared Culture**
Beyond politics and economics, the UAE and Oman share a rich cultural heritage. Their arts and literature have created a unified cultural identity that extends across the entire Gulf region.
You can see these shared traditions everywhere - in poetry, stories, oral traditions, proverbs, and folk tales. The way people live their daily lives also reflects these common roots.
The cultural and social bonds between Emiratis and Omanis go incredibly deep. Many families have relatives across both countries, and they share customs, traditional clothing, and art forms. This happens naturally because of their shared history and geographic proximity.
As both countries continue to develop and modernize, this celebration shows that their partnership remains a cornerstone of Gulf stability and cooperation. The relationship proves that neighboring countries can work together effectively while respecting each other's sovereignty and unique characteristics.
