World-Class Talents Compete in Dubai: Habibur Tennis Championship Unveils Stellar Lineup
The 28th edition of the Al Habtoor International Women's Tennis Championship is set to kick off in Dubai with a $100,000 prize pool and 80 promising players competing. The tournament attracts rising stars looking to break into higher professional levels, making it a key stepping stone event in women's tennis.
Tournament organizers will hold a press conference this Sunday at 10:30 AM at the Al Habtoor Grand Resort to announce details and conduct the draw ceremony. The event has become a annual showcase for emerging talent in the tennis world.
Ukrainian player Daria Snigur stands out as one of the biggest names returning to Dubai. The 2021 champion and 2019 runner-up brings strong grass court credentials after impressive showings at Wimbledon and Nottingham, plus reaching the main draw at the Australian Open.
Austria's Julia Grabher leads the field as the top-ranked participant at world No. 92. She's joined by Latvia's Darja Semenistaja (No. 94) and Hungary's Dalma Galfi (No. 96), both having strong seasons. Russia's Anastasia Zakharova (No. 101) and Austria's Sinja Kraus (No. 105) round out the top seeds after the organizing committee finalized the entry list.
This year's participants are showing real momentum. Grabher claimed her second WTA 125 title in October at the Florianopolis tournament in Brazil, pushing her back into the top 100 for the first time since November 2023. Semenistaja made her US Open main draw debut before capturing the Le Francais del Valles WTA 100 title, giving her ranking a significant boost.
Galfi has been particularly hot, winning back-to-back WTA 125 titles at the Oeiras Open and Catalonia Open in consecutive weeks. This streak shows she'll arrive in Dubai in peak form.
Tournament director Noura Badawi announced nine wildcard recipients. Four players received main draw wildcards: Cristy Fria from the UK, Kristina Mladenovic from France, Vendula Valdmannova from Czech Republic, and Vera Zvonareva from Russia.
