UAE President Welcomes Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister
UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of Iraq's Kurdistan Region, at Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi today. The working visit comes as the UAE celebrates its 54th Union Day and highlights growing ties between the Emirates and Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdish region.
Barzani congratulated Sheikh Mohammed on the UAE's Union Day anniversary, wishing the country and its people continued progress and prosperity. The UAE leader thanked him for the warm sentiments and expressed hopes for Iraq's continued stability and growth.
The two leaders discussed strengthening ties between the UAE and Iraq, with particular focus on the Kurdistan Region. They explored ways to expand cooperation that would benefit both sides and support shared development goals for their countries and peoples.
Both sides also exchanged views on several issues of mutual interest. They emphasized the importance of promoting peace and stability across the region for the benefit of all countries and their populations.
This meeting reflects the UAE's broader strategy of building economic partnerships across the Middle East, particularly with Iraq's Kurdistan Region, which has significant oil reserves and investment opportunities. The Kurdistan Regional Government has been actively seeking international partners to develop its economy and infrastructure, making it an attractive partner for the resource-rich Emirates.
The timing of this visit during the UAE's national celebrations suggests both countries view their relationship as increasingly important for regional stability and economic cooperation.
