UAE Leaders Congratulate Palestinian President on Independence Anniversary
UAE's top leadership sent congratulatory messages to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa on Palestine's Independence Day. The diplomatic gesture comes as regional relationships continue to evolve in the Middle East.
President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan led the congratulations, sending a formal message to Abbas marking the anniversary of Palestine's independence declaration. Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan also sent similar messages to the Palestinian president.
The UAE leadership extended the same courtesy to Dr. Mohammad Mustafa, who serves as Palestine's Prime Minister. Both Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed sent congratulatory cables to the Palestinian government head.
These diplomatic exchanges reflect the UAE's ongoing engagement with Palestinian leadership despite the complex political landscape in the region. The Abraham Accords signed in 2020 normalized relations between the UAE and Israel, but Emirati officials have consistently maintained their support for Palestinian statehood and rights.
Palestine declared independence on November 15, 1988, during a Palestinian National Council meeting in Algiers. The declaration came during the First Intifada and has been recognized by over 130 countries worldwide, though major powers including the United States have not granted formal recognition.
For regional observers, these congratulatory messages signal the UAE's balanced approach to Middle Eastern diplomacy. The country continues to maintain relationships across different political camps while pursuing its broader economic and strategic interests in the region.
