Petrojet Star Ignites Fierce Rivalry Between Egyptian Giants Al Ahly and Zamalek
Egypt's two biggest football clubs, Al Ahly and Zamalek, are now locked in a fierce battle to sign Petrojet midfielder Hamed Hamdan during the upcoming January transfer window. This rivalry highlights how both Cairo giants are scrambling to strengthen their squads mid-season.
Zamalek had their eyes on Hamdan first. The White Knights targeted the Petrojet star for the winter transfer period, seeing him as a key addition to their midfield. But Al Ahly quickly jumped into the race once they caught wind of Zamalek's interest.
Here's where it gets interesting - Hamdan almost joined Zamalek during last summer's transfer window. Two things killed that deal: Petrojet refused to let their player go, and Zamalek was hit with a registration ban that blocked them from signing new players.
Now that the registration ban is lifted, both clubs are free to pursue Hamdan. Al Ahly has already opened direct talks with the player, hoping to wrap up a deal when the January window opens.
For Petrojet, this puts them in a strong position. Having two of Egypt's most successful clubs compete for the same player means they can likely demand a higher transfer fee. Hamdan's stock has clearly risen after his performances caught the attention of both Cairo powerhouses.
The battle for Hamdan shows how competitive Egyptian football remains at the top level. When Al Ahly and Zamalek want the same player, it usually means that player has serious talent. January's transfer window just became a lot more interesting for Egyptian football fans.
