Multiple Casualties Reported in Deadly Road Accidents Across Pakistan
At least 13 people died and dozens were injured in two separate bus crashes in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province on Thursday. The accidents highlight ongoing road safety challenges in a region where poor infrastructure and mountainous terrain make travel dangerous.
The first crash happened in Lasbela Uthal district when a passenger bus collided with a truck. Six people died and 17 others were injured, according to local authorities reported by Pakistan's Geo TV channel.
The second accident occurred in Hub-Windir area, where seven passengers were killed and 16 injured when their bus crashed. Police didn't immediately release details about what caused either crash.
Asif Amir, the senior police officer in Lasbela Uthal district, said the collision completely blocked traffic on the highway. Rescue workers and other officials worked to clear debris and help victims at the scene.
Balochistan, Pakistan's largest province by area, has some of the country's most challenging roads. The mountainous terrain and long distances between cities mean bus travel is common, but accidents happen frequently due to poor road conditions, driver fatigue, and aging vehicles.
Pakistan's road safety record remains poor overall, with thousands of people killed in traffic accidents each year. The country's National Highway Authority has been working to improve major routes, but many secondary roads still lack proper safety features and maintenance.
