Abu Dhabi Sees Impressive Construction Boom: 12,309 Completed Buildings in First Half of 2025
Abu Dhabi completed 5,767 buildings in the second quarter of 2025, bringing the emirate's total construction achievements to 12,309 buildings in the first half of the year. The figures include new construction projects alongside modifications and additions, showing strong momentum in the region's building sector.
Official data from the Department of Municipalities and Transport and Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi reveals that Abu Dhabi city led the construction activity with 4,362 completed buildings, most of which were new constructions. Al Ain city followed with 1,960 completed buildings, while Al Dhafra region finished 220 buildings during the same period.
The emirate issued 2,571 new building permits during the second quarter, covering various purposes including commercial, industrial, residential, agricultural, and public facilities. This brought the total permits for the first half of 2025 to 4,994.
Residential permits dominated the second quarter with 1,438 licenses issued. Commercial building permits came second with 585 licenses, followed by 221 permits for public facilities and 208 industrial building permits. Agricultural construction received 64 permits, with 55 other miscellaneous permits completing the tally.
Abu Dhabi city accounted for the largest share of permits with 1,891 licenses. These included 1,046 residential permits, 526 commercial permits, 115 for public facilities, 137 for industrial purposes, 27 for agriculture, and 40 for other uses. The city authorized 1,334 new buildings, 99 addition permits, and 458 modification licenses.
Al Ain city registered 528 new building permits, with residential construction taking the lead at 328 permits. Public facilities received 61 permits, commercial projects got 51, industrial developments secured 56, agricultural projects obtained 19, and other purposes accounted for 13 permits. The city approved 433 new buildings, 67 modifications, and 28 additions.
Al Dhafra region issued 152 building permits, with residential projects leading at 64 permits. Public facilities followed with 45 permits, agricultural construction received 18, industrial projects got 15, commercial developments secured 8, and 2 other permits were issued. The region authorized 140 new buildings, 4 additions, and 8 modifications.
These numbers reflect Abu Dhabi's continued urban development and economic diversification efforts. The strong residential permit numbers suggest ongoing population growth and housing demand, while the significant commercial and industrial activity points to business expansion across the emirate.
