Fujairah Police Apprehends 16 Youths, Impounds 27 Vehicles During Union Holiday Crackdown
Fujairah police arrested multiple reckless drivers and referred 16 young men to prosecutors during UAE National Day celebrations, highlighting ongoing safety challenges during public festivities. The crackdown occurred between November 28 and December 2, 2025, as authorities stepped up security measures in the Al-Faqit area.
The 16 individuals faced charges after engaging in dangerous behavior that put their lives and other road users at risk. Police said they used spray tools and water cannons inappropriately, prompting authorities to take swift legal action.
Traffic violations were equally concerning. Police impounded 27 vehicles whose owners committed serious traffic offenses during the same period. The emirate recorded 270 traffic accidents overall, with 269 classified as minor incidents and one resulting in injuries.
The timing of these incidents is significant. UAE National Day celebrations typically see increased road activity and public gatherings, making traffic enforcement more critical. Fujairah's approach reflects a broader national strategy of maintaining public safety during major holidays while allowing citizens to celebrate freely.
For local authorities, these numbers represent both a challenge and a success. While 270 accidents in five days seems high, the fact that only one caused injuries suggests effective emergency response and perhaps some restraint among drivers despite reckless behavior.
The police emphasized that their field operations aim to protect community members while ensuring national celebrations continue safely. They stressed the importance of following traffic laws and maintaining civilized behavior during public events.
This enforcement pattern is common across the UAE during national holidays, when police typically increase patrols and impose stricter penalties for traffic violations. The approach balances allowing public celebration with maintaining order and safety on the roads.
