Former US President Trump Announces National Guard Member's Tragic Shooting Death
President Donald Trump announced that one of two West Virginia National Guard members shot near the White House has died. During a call with U.S. forces, Trump said he just learned that 20-year-old Specialist Sarah Beckstrom had passed away, while 24-year-old Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolf remains in critical condition.
Trump delivered the news during what appeared to be a routine call with military personnel. "She just died," Trump said. "She's no longer with us." He added that Wolf is "fighting for his life."
The shooting occurred near the White House, but details about the circumstances remain limited. The incident involves members of the West Virginia National Guard, though it's unclear what brought them to the area or how the shooting unfolded.
Both guard members were young - Beckstrom was just 20 and Wolf is 24. The West Virginia National Guard has not yet released additional information about the incident or the condition of the surviving service member.
The proximity to the White House raises questions about security protocols and whether this was a random act of violence or something more targeted. Federal authorities will likely investigate given the location and the involvement of military personnel.
