Emirati Red Crescent Distributes 6,000 Helmets at Liwa Festival
The UAE Red Crescent distributed 6,000 protective helmets to visitors at the Liwa "Tel Moreeb" festival, marking a community safety push to reduce injuries from motorcycle riding, cycling, and dune climbing during one of the region's most popular adventure events.
The three-day initiative targeted the festival's high-risk activities. Tel Moreeb, known as the world's tallest sand dune, attracts thousands of thrill-seekers who attempt to climb its steep face in 4x4 vehicles, while others navigate the area on motorcycles and bicycles.
Red Crescent teams set up distribution points at key locations - the main entrance to Tel Moreeb, the motorcycle area, and parking zones before the dune climb begins. The strategic placement helped them reach the largest number of participants and visitors.
The program focused on motorcycle license holders, dune climbing enthusiasts, and groups most prone to accidents during sporting events. It also encouraged helmet use among passengers and promoted safety at bike rental shops throughout the festival grounds.
This effort comes as part of ongoing collaboration between the UAE Red Crescent, Abu Dhabi Police, and Liwa Festival management. The partnership reflects growing attention to safety protocols at mass outdoor events, especially those involving extreme sports and adventure activities.
The helmet distribution fits into the Red Crescent's broader mission of community health and safety. For organizers, it represents a practical approach to injury prevention at events where participants often underestimate risks. The initiative also signals how safety awareness is becoming more integrated into popular festivals across the UAE.
Adventure tourism continues to grow in the Emirates, with events like the Liwa Festival drawing both locals and international visitors. But the popularity of these activities has brought increased focus on safety measures and accident prevention during high-adrenaline events.
