Egypt's President Announces International Conference to Rebuild Gaza
Egypt will host an international conference in November 2025 to rebuild Gaza, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi announced Sunday. The move positions Egypt as a key player in Gaza's post-war reconstruction and signals the country's commitment to supporting Palestinian recovery efforts following the recent ceasefire agreement.
Sisi made the announcement during a military educational seminar marking the 52nd anniversary of Egypt's 1973 October War victory. He outlined Egypt's intensive diplomatic efforts over the past two years to end the Gaza conflict, facilitate humanitarian aid delivery, and secure the release of hostages and prisoners.
The Egyptian president thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for his role in supporting ceasefire efforts, highlighting the international coordination that led to the current pause in fighting and the peace summit held in Sharm el-Sheikh.
But Sisi went beyond diplomatic praise. He called on Egyptian citizens to actively participate in Gaza's reconstruction, describing it as an expression of solidarity and responsibility toward Palestinians. The president instructed Prime Minister to work with civil society organizations and government agencies to create a national mechanism for collecting citizen donations and contributions.
This reconstruction conference represents a significant economic opportunity for Egypt. The country has historically served as a crucial gateway for aid and materials entering Gaza through the Rafah crossing. Hosting the international conference could position Egypt to coordinate billions of dollars in reconstruction funding from donor countries and international organizations.
For investors and regional markets, Gaza's reconstruction presents substantial business opportunities. The territory will need everything from basic infrastructure to housing, schools, and hospitals. Egyptian construction companies and suppliers are likely to benefit from their proximity and existing relationships in the region.
The timing also matters politically. By scheduling the conference for November 2025, Egypt gives itself nearly a year to build international support and develop concrete reconstruction plans. This approach mirrors Egypt's role in previous Gaza reconstruction efforts, where the country served as both a diplomatic mediator and logistical coordinator.
