Dubai Police Impound 49 Vehicles, Issue 3,153 Fines During Union Day Celebrations
Dubai Police seized 49 cars and 25 motorcycles during UAE National Day celebrations, while issuing 3,153 traffic violations to young drivers who broke traffic laws. The crackdown highlights ongoing challenges with reckless driving during national celebrations, as authorities work to balance festive spirit with public safety.
The violations included dangerous driving behaviors like failing to stay in lanes, blocking traffic flow, reckless driving, and passengers hanging out of car windows. Dubai Police had warned beforehand that they would take strict action against anyone breaking traffic laws during the Union Day festivities.
Colonel Jumaa bin Suwaidan, Director of Dubai Police Traffic Department, had issued detailed guidelines before the celebrations. The rules banned drivers and passengers from using spray cans while in vehicles, covering or obscuring license plates, and writing inappropriate messages or placing unsuitable stickers on cars.
Other prohibited activities included changing vehicle colors, overloading cars beyond capacity, passengers climbing out of windows or sunroofs, and covering windows with stickers or sun shades. Police also banned unauthorized parades, random gatherings, and stunt driving on both internal and external roads.
The regulations specifically required that only UAE flags could be displayed on vehicles, along with official Union Day stickers. Drivers were forbidden from using vehicles that produce excessive noise, honking unnecessarily, or playing loud music that disturbs others.
Dubai Police called on parents to educate their children about responsible celebration and traffic safety. The enforcement action reflects broader efforts across the UAE to maintain order during national celebrations, which often see increased traffic violations and risky driving behaviors among younger participants.
The significant number of violations - over 3,000 in a single day - shows how challenging it can be to manage large-scale public celebrations while keeping roads safe. For Dubai's authorities, the balance between allowing festive expression and preventing accidents remains a key concern during major national events.
