Algerian Network Signs Congolese Striker Banza to Bolster Attacking Options
Al Jazira FC has signed Congolese striker Simon Banza from Portuguese club Sporting Braga, completing their foreign player roster before the summer transfer window closes. The 27-year-old forward brings impressive European experience and a strong goal-scoring record to the Abu Dhabi-based club.
The club announced the signing on their official X account but didn't reveal contract details or transfer fees. However, Portuguese newspaper Record reported that Banza moved for €9 million for 80% of his playing rights, with an additional €2 million in performance-related bonuses.
Banza's career path shows steady progression through European football. He started at Lens academy in France before moving to Portugal, where he made his mark at Famalicao. His performances caught Sporting Braga's attention, leading to a transfer in summer 2022. Last season, he played for Turkish side Trabzonspor, where he scored 19 goals and provided 4 assists in 31 league appearances.
The striker's physical presence and finishing ability made him one of the standout forwards in the Portuguese league. He's also represented the Democratic Republic of Congo national team on multiple occasions, establishing himself as a key attacking player for his country.
This signing completes Al Jazira's foreign player quota of five. The squad now includes Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny, Brazilian Willian Rocha, Egyptian Ibrahim Adel, French player Nabil Fekir, and now Banza. The club recently agreed to let Argentine Ramon Mirez join Al Nassr during this transfer window.
For Al Jazira, known as "Pride of Abu Dhabi," Banza's arrival represents a significant investment in their attacking options. His proven track record in competitive European leagues and international experience could help the club's ambitions in domestic and continental competitions. The transfer also reflects the UAE Pro League's continued efforts to attract established European talent.
