Woesl Stumbles After Cup Exit, Loses 2 Points to Khorfakkan in League Clash
Khorfakkan goalkeeper Rashid Suhail delivered a masterclass performance to help his team secure a valuable 1-1 draw against Al Wasl in the seventh round of the UAE Pro League. The brother of international player Hareb Suhail made several crucial saves to earn "The Eagles" a point that lifted them to 8 points, while Al Wasl moved to 14 points.
Suhail put on a stellar display at Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi Stadium, stopping multiple dangerous attacks from Al Wasl. The visitors managed to score through an unlucky deflection - Abdulrahman Saleh's shot hit Fabio Lima and changed direction, leaving the Khorfakkan keeper with no chance. This continues Al Wasl's recent struggles after their cup exit to Dibba Al Fujairah in the round of 16.
Al Wasl controlled 65% of possession in the first half, but Khorfakkan took the early advantage. The home side struck first in the 11th minute through a brilliant move. Tariq Tisoudali set up Bediro Pavlov, who finished clinically to give the hosts the lead.
The match turned into a goalkeeper's duel. Al Wasl keeper Mohammed Ali made a crucial save in the 38th minute, denying Ailton Felipe when he broke through one-on-one. But Suhail was the standout performer, making two spectacular saves in the 40th minute and deep into stoppage time. His best moment came when he somehow kept out Adama Diallo's header after the ball had rebounded off the crossbar from a Palacios free kick.
Al Wasl coach Luis Castro made three substitutions that proved decisive. Fabio Lima, Mateus Saldanha, and Abdulrahman Saleh came on to change the game's momentum. In the 80th minute, Lima grabbed the equalizer by following up on Saleh's powerful shot to level the score.
Despite late pressure from "The Emperor" Al Wasl, Suhail and the Khorfakkan defense, led by Abdullah Al Rifai, held firm to secure the draw. The result keeps Al Wasl in the upper half of the table while giving Khorfakkan a morale-boosting point against one of the league's stronger sides.
