Upcoming Handball Federation Elections Set for Next Sunday
The UAE Handball Federation will hold its elections next Sunday at 11 AM in Dubai, with 16 clubs set to vote for the new board that will serve from 2025-2028. The race for president appears settled, but five board positions are up for grabs among eight candidates.
Saud Saleh, a current federation member from Shabab Al Ahli Club, is running unopposed for president. He'll be formally endorsed during Sunday's meeting at the Olympic Committee and Sports Federations headquarters in Dubai.
The real competition centers on the board positions. Eight candidates are vying for five seats, representing clubs across the Emirates. The lineup includes Mohammed Al Suwaidi from Al Jazira, Abdulsalam Bilal from Al Wasl, and Omar Al Zubair from Al Nasr.
Other contenders are Ibrahim Al Hammadi from Maliha, Rahma Ghaleb from Sharjah, Adnan Al Matroushi from Kalba, Mohammed Al Hammadi from Al Wahda, and Yasser Al Naqbi from Khorfakkan.
This election comes at a time when UAE handball is working to strengthen its domestic league and improve its international standing. The federation has been focusing on youth development and infrastructure improvements across member clubs.
The 16 voting clubs represent the active membership of the general assembly. Each will have a say in shaping the federation's direction for the next four years, including decisions on league structure, national team programs, and facility development.
For handball in the UAE, this leadership change could influence everything from grassroots programs to the national team's preparation for regional competitions. The new board will inherit ongoing projects and face decisions about the sport's growth strategy in a competitive regional landscape.
