Unraveling the Poetic Gems of Home: Mohamed bin Zayed University Launches 'Qaseed Al-Dar' Series
The UAE Identity Center at Mohammed bin Zayed University for Humanities launched a new literary series called "Qaseed Al Dar" to showcase influential Nabati poets who shaped the country's cultural identity. The initiative aims to connect younger generations with these literary figures whose work formed the collective memory of Emirati society.
The series kicked off with a seminar focusing on renowned poet Ahmed bin Ali Al Kindi, considered one of the leading voices in Emirati Nabati poetry. His son, poet and researcher Ali bin Ahmed Al Kindi, led an engaging literary discussion that bridged contemporary culture with traditional heritage. The conversation highlighted key moments in his father's poetic journey, which reflected the authenticity of Emirati society and its rich cultural environment.
This initiative supports Mohammed bin Zayed University's strategic priorities to deepen awareness of national identity through knowledge-based and cultural programs. The university wants to strengthen community belonging and build bridges between generations, helping students discover icons of folk literature while preserving the UAE's cultural heritage.
The series includes a diverse literary program running throughout the year with dialogue sessions and field visits to several poetic and literary figures across the country. It will conclude with a published work documenting these cultural icons covered during the series, creating a reference that preserves their legacy and reinforces their impact.
Nabati poetry holds special significance in Gulf culture, serving as an oral tradition that captured daily life, values, and social customs before modern media. By focusing on these poets, the university addresses a gap in formal education where traditional arts often get less attention than contemporary subjects. The program also comes at a time when the UAE is investing heavily in cultural preservation initiatives as part of its broader vision to maintain national identity while embracing modernization.
