United Arab Emirates Experiences Record-Breaking Chilly Temperatures
The UAE recorded its lowest temperature of the day Thursday morning at 20.1°C (68.2°F), with two locations hitting this mark simultaneously in different emirates. The National Center of Meteorology tracked these readings in the early morning hours when temperatures typically reach their daily minimum.
The identical temperature readings came from Rakna in Al Ain and Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah. Rakna hit 20.1°C at 3:45 AM local time, while Jebel Jais reached the same temperature at 2:00 AM.
Jebel Jais, the UAE's highest peak at 1,934 meters above sea level, regularly records the country's coolest temperatures due to its elevation. The mountain's altitude creates naturally cooler conditions compared to the coastal and desert areas that make up most of the Emirates.
These morning lows reflect the UAE's winter weather patterns, where desert climates can see significant temperature drops during nighttime hours. The timing of these readings - between 2:00 AM and 3:45 AM - aligns with when atmospheric temperatures typically reach their lowest point before sunrise.
For residents and visitors, these cooler morning temperatures offer relief from the region's typically warm climate, making early morning hours ideal for outdoor activities during the winter months.
