UAE Vice President Honors Azerbaijan's Victory Day Celebration
Dubai's Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum arrived in Baku to represent UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at Azerbaijan's Victory Day celebrations. The high-level diplomatic visit highlights the growing ties between the UAE and Azerbaijan, two nations that have strengthened their partnership significantly over recent years.
Sheikh Hamdan, who also serves as Deputy Prime Minister, Defense Minister, and Chairman of Dubai's Executive Council, was welcomed at Heydar Aliyev International Airport by Azerbaijan's Minister of Science and Education, Amin Amrullayev, along with other senior officials.
Victory Day marks Azerbaijan's recapture of territories in Nagorno-Karabakh following the 2020 conflict with Armenia. The 44-day war ended with Azerbaijan regaining control over significant portions of the disputed region, which it considers occupied territory under international law.
The UAE's representation at this celebration reflects deeper strategic interests. Both countries have built strong economic partnerships, particularly in energy and technology sectors. Azerbaijan's position as an energy producer aligns with the UAE's broader strategy of diversifying diplomatic and economic relationships across the Caspian region.
For investors and regional watchers, this visit signals continued UAE engagement in the South Caucasus. The region has become increasingly important for energy transit routes and represents new opportunities as global supply chains shift. Azerbaijan's victory celebrations also demonstrate the country's growing confidence in asserting its territorial claims, which could influence future regional stability and investment flows.
