UAE Leader Envisions Bright Future: Proud of Homeland's Unifying Global Influence
The UAE is making a bold push to become the world's leading digital economy hub, with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announcing ambitious plans to increase Dubai's digital transformation contribution to 100 billion dirhams by 2033. The announcement came during the opening of GITEX Global 2024, the world's largest technology and AI exhibition, which brought together 6,800 tech companies and 2,000 startups from 180 countries.
Sheikh Mohammed, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, emphasized that the country is accelerating its comprehensive development journey by adopting cutting-edge technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, to build an advanced digital economy. "We want the UAE to be the global model for building an integrated digital economy led by innovation and based on knowledge and artificial intelligence," he said during the exhibition opening at Dubai World Trade Centre.
The timing couldn't be more strategic. As global economies grapple with digital transformation challenges, the UAE is positioning itself as a bridge between East and West for technology partnerships. The country has been investing heavily in digital infrastructure and future industries, recognizing that AI and digital technologies will drive the next wave of economic growth.
GITEX Global 2024, now in its 45th edition, has evolved far beyond a simple tech showcase. It's become a global movement that reflects the UAE's determination to lead positive change and turn challenges into opportunities. The event features over 1,400 speakers and serves as a launching pad for strategic partnerships that could cement the UAE's position as a central hub for the global digital economy.
During his tour of the exhibition, Sheikh Mohammed visited major international companies including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, and Huawei. He also stopped at the European Innovation Council pavilion, where EU Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva explained how 15 leading European innovation companies are seeking to capitalize on opportunities at the world's biggest tech event.
The focus on AI infrastructure development is particularly significant for investors and tech companies. The exhibition showcases solutions for AI-ready data centers, quantum computing, cloud computing, and flexible digital frameworks. Companies like Cisco are presenting innovations designed to simplify, secure, and accelerate AI adoption for organizations in the rapidly evolving digital world.
Local participation is equally impressive. UAE telecommunications giant e& displayed future technology solutions including flying cars, electric air taxis (eVTOL), AI-powered autonomous vehicles, and robots. Dubai's General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs showcased projects that transform AI from an experimental tool into an operational system, enhancing service quality and reinforcing Dubai's position as the world's smartest city.
The exhibition's 45th edition specifically targets AI infrastructure development, accelerating global innovation, and enhancing international dialogue on policies supporting responsible development in the growing AI economy. This approach aligns with Dubai's Economic Agenda (D33), Dubai Blockchain Strategy, and UAE Vision 2031.
For the broader tech ecosystem, GITEX Global serves as more than just a networking event. It's become a catalyst for innovation and investment that unifies government entities, innovation centers, and startups to deliver cutting-edge AI-powered solutions and services. This comprehensive approach enhances economic diversification and global competitiveness for the UAE.
The event is expected to help define technology's impact on economic and social growth over the next decade, both regionally and globally. With government institutions, industry leaders, global tech companies, SMEs, investors, and entrepreneurs all participating, GITEX Global is paving the way for the next phase of digital transformation.
Sheikh Mohammed's pride in both government institutions and national companies participating in the event reflects a broader strategy. The UAE isn't just hosting a tech exhibition – it's positioning itself as an active participant in designing humanity's future, bringing the world together under one roof to shape the next chapter of technological advancement.
