UAE Calls for Two-State Solution as the Only Path to Lasting Peace and Stability in the Region
The UAE's Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan led his country's delegation at a high-level international conference in New York focused on achieving a two-state solution for Palestine. The meeting, held alongside the UN General Assembly's 80th session, brought together world leaders to push for an independent Palestinian state that can coexist peacefully with Israel.
The conference emphasized the need for international support in establishing a sovereign Palestinian state within internationally recognized borders. This comes as more countries worldwide have recently recognized Palestine as a state, building momentum for diplomatic efforts.
The UAE maintains that lasting peace in the Middle East can only happen when Palestinians have their own independent state living alongside Israel. The country sees the two-state solution as the key to integrating Israel regionally and ending decades of conflict that has affected both peoples.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and French President Emmanuel Macron co-led the conference, with the UAE praising their efforts to advance the peace process. The timing is significant as international recognition of Palestinian statehood has been growing, creating what many see as a diplomatic opening.
Before the conference, the UAE co-sponsored a UN General Assembly resolution that 142 countries voted to approve. The resolution adopted the "New York Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution."
For regional stability, the UAE's position reflects broader Arab world sentiment that Palestinian statehood is essential for ending the cycle of violence. The country has been working to balance its Abraham Accords relationship with Israel while maintaining support for Palestinian rights.
The UAE said it will continue partnering with regional and international allies to find a fair solution that ends the conflict. The goal is creating a more stable and prosperous future for all peoples in the region, recognizing that the Palestinian issue remains central to Middle East peace efforts.
