The UAE has completed another urgent medical evacuation, bringing 57 patients and their families from Gaza to safety. This latest operation brings the total number evacuated under the "Gallant Knight 3" initiative to 2,961 patients and companions since October 2023.
The evacuation took place through Ramon Airport in Israel and the Kerem Shalom crossing. This marks the 29th batch of emergency medical evacuations carried out by the UAE's International Aid Agency, following directives from President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to treat 1,000 wounded Palestinians and 1,000 cancer patients in UAE hospitals.
Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Deputy Chairman of the UAE International Aid Agency, emphasized the country's commitment to supporting early recovery and helping those affected by crises worldwide. He pointed to the catastrophic humanitarian situation facing Palestinian civilians and stressed that the UAE will continue its urgent humanitarian response through coordinated patient transfers with relevant international organizations.
The UAE's relief efforts extend beyond these evacuations. The country operates a floating hospital off the coast of Al-Arish, Egypt, providing healthcare, treatment, medicines and medical supplies to patients. There's also a field hospital in southern Gaza offering services to all patients and injured civilians.
These medical facilities specifically focus on helping the most vulnerable groups - children, women and elderly people - who are bearing the brunt of the humanitarian crisis. The UAE's approach combines immediate medical evacuations with on-ground healthcare infrastructure to address both urgent cases and ongoing medical needs in the region.
The scale of this operation shows how the UAE has positioned itself as a key player in Middle Eastern humanitarian efforts. By treating patients in its own hospitals while maintaining medical facilities in the region, the country is taking on significant costs and logistical challenges to provide comprehensive medical support during this crisis.
