InfraX, the digital arm of Dubai's electricity and water authority DEWA, has signed a partnership deal with Swedish telecom giant Ericsson to speed up digital transformation across the UAE's utilities sector. The agreement focuses on building smart, connected utility systems using IoT technology and automation.
InfraX operates as DEWA Digital's subsidiary and provides advanced digital services and communication infrastructure for Dubai's power and water operations. The company holds a special IoT license that allows it to develop and market IoT networks and services across the UAE.
The partnership brings together InfraX's local infrastructure expertise with Ericsson's global experience in network upgrades, automation, and critical infrastructure connectivity. Both companies will share technical knowledge and develop digital solutions aimed at boosting operational efficiency.
Rashid Al Ahmadi, Chief Operating Officer at InfraX, said partnerships are essential for accelerating digital transformation in Dubai's utilities sector. He explained that combining InfraX's advanced network infrastructure with Ericsson's technology innovations will help build a smart, secure, and sustainable system that supports Dubai's broader digital transformation goals.
Petra Schirin, Ericsson's head for Gulf Cooperation Council countries, said the agreement reflects their commitment to supporting digital transformation initiatives that create sustainable value for society. She noted that developing customized use cases for the utilities sector and sharing global expertise will demonstrate how digital technologies can enable smarter, more sustainable utilities.
The memorandum builds on existing cooperation between Ericsson and InfraX in digitizing utility operations. It sets the foundation for expanding future collaboration in the sector and opens new opportunities for scalable innovation and growth.
For the UAE's utilities market, this partnership represents a significant step toward modernizing infrastructure that serves millions of residents and businesses. The focus on IoT and automation could help reduce operational costs while improving service reliability - critical factors as the country continues its rapid economic development and population growth.
