Space 42 Launches UAE's First Sovereign Mobility Cloud Platform
Space42 just launched the UAE's first sovereign mobility cloud, built on Core42's sovereign public cloud infrastructure using Microsoft Azure. This puts the UAE ahead in the race to control its own autonomous vehicle data while building the backbone for nationwide self-driving transportation systems.
The new platform keeps all mobility data inside UAE borders and follows local regulations. But here's where it gets interesting - this isn't just about data sovereignty. The cloud provides everything needed for autonomous vehicles: high-precision mapping, remote communications, fleet management, digital twins, and traffic control systems. It also creates a secure environment where government agencies, universities, and private companies can share transportation data.
Space42 plans to roll out pilot projects and regulatory testing centers with UAE transport authorities. They're bringing in global partners from automotive, tech, and academic sectors to expand the system's reach.
The partnership splits responsibilities clearly. Space42 handles application deployment and works with regulators to get autonomous vehicle solutions approved through pilot programs and commercial launches. Core42 and Microsoft provide the sovereign cloud infrastructure through their UAE data centers, plus AI platforms and data governance frameworks to ensure everything stays compliant with local laws. Microsoft adds training, technical expertise, and joint investment to support the operational growth.
This builds on existing collaboration between Space42 and Microsoft. They previously launched the Africa Mapping Initiative with Esri in July 2025 and made Space42's geospatial AI platform (GIQ) available through Microsoft Azure Marketplace.
Space42 has real experience in autonomous mobility. Since 2021, their TXAI service logged over 600,000 kilometers of safe autonomous driving and nearly 20,000 passenger trips in Abu Dhabi. Their fleet covers Saadiyat, Yas, Al Maryah, and Al Reem islands, plus Abu Dhabi International Airport.
Beyond autonomous taxis, Space42 continues developing smart mobility solutions including high-precision maps, digital twins, and AI-powered fleet management. They work closely with regulatory and academic partners to make sure innovation meets safety standards and global best practices.
For investors and governments watching the autonomous vehicle space, this matters because it shows how countries can build their own transportation infrastructure without depending entirely on foreign tech companies. The UAE is positioning itself as a testing ground for autonomous vehicles while keeping control of the valuable data these systems generate.
