Sharjah Ruler Directs Allocation of 1,500 Land Plots for Emirate's Citizens
Sharjah's Executive Council approved 1,500 land grants for UAE citizens today, marking the second batch of residential and commercial plots allocated for 2025. The move follows direct orders from Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Sharjah's ruler, as part of the emirate's ongoing effort to support local property ownership and business development.
The land allocation breaks down into 550 residential plots and 950 commercial investment plots spread across different areas of Sharjah. Ali Sultan bin Bati Al Muhairi, director of Sharjah's Planning and Survey Department, announced the decision during the "Direct Line" program.
This represents a significant expansion of Sharjah's land grant program. The emirate has been actively distributing government-owned land to citizens as part of broader housing and economic support initiatives. These grants help citizens build homes without the high costs of purchasing land in the private market, while the commercial plots create opportunities for local businesses.
For property markets in the UAE, this kind of government land distribution affects supply dynamics. When governments release land for free to citizens, it can influence private land values and development patterns across the emirate. The 950 commercial plots particularly signal Sharjah's push to boost local business activity and reduce dependence on neighboring Dubai's commercial centers.
The timing coincides with the UAE's broader economic diversification efforts. Local governments across the country have been using land grants and housing support as tools to strengthen citizen welfare while encouraging domestic investment. Sharjah's approach of mixing residential and commercial allocations in a single batch shows how smaller emirates compete for business activity and population retention.
