Sharjah Faces Mounting Pressures: Loses 8 Points, Milošević's Impact Still Missing
Sharjah FC has stumbled badly this season, collecting just four points from their first four league matches in the UAE's top division. The team that won the AFC Champions League 2 last season now sits in 10th place, a sharp fall from grace that's raising serious questions about their new Serbian coach Miloš Milojević.
The warning signs are everywhere. Sharjah lost 1-0 to Ajman just two days ago, their second defeat this season after falling by the same score to Al Jazira. They managed one win against Dibba Al-Fujairah (3-1) and drew 2-2 with Khor Fakkan. But here's the thing - they could have had 12 points if they'd performed at their usual level.
What makes this collapse puzzling is the talent on paper. Sharjah brought in quality players during the summer transfer window, including Brazilian Igor Coronado, Argentine Jerónimo Poletti, and Serbian defender Vladimir. They also kept their core stars like Caio Lucas, Luan Pereira, and Othman Kamara. On paper, this squad should be competing for titles.
The problems started when Romanian coach Olăroiu Cosmin left in April to coach the national team. Since then, Sharjah hasn't looked like the same team that other clubs used to fear. Sports analyst Ali Hamid puts it bluntly - the issue isn't the players, it's the coach's mentality and approach.
"Sharjah got used to a certain system over the past two seasons and succeeded with it, but Miloš tried to change it," Hamid explained. He described the Serbian coach as "very shaky," pointing out that the team hasn't settled on a consistent formation or playing style.
The timing couldn't be worse. Sharjah faces Al Wasl next in their fifth league match, a game that could determine Miloš's future. They also have Asian Champions League commitments, with a match against Qatar's Al Sadd coming up on January 30th in Doha.
For investors and clubs watching the UAE league, Sharjah's struggles show how quickly fortunes can change in football. A team that made history by winning their first continental title is now fighting to stay relevant in domestic competition. The contrast highlights the importance of coaching stability and tactical continuity in professional sports.
Hamid believes the players have enough quality to compete for the league title if they can move past the coaching issues. But with each poor result, the pressure mounts on a club that's gone from continental champions to a team other sides see as easy prey.
