Rosha: Al-Jazira Faces Tough Test Against Al-Wahda in UAE Pro League Cup Decider
Al Jazira defender Willian Rocha admits his team feels devastated after losing 3-0 to Al Wahda in the first leg of the UAE Pro League Cup semi-final. But the Brazilian defender says the focus now shifts to the return leg, where Al Jazira needs to show a completely different face to stay alive in the competition.
The loss was a major blow for Al Jazira, who had been performing well defensively in recent matches before this setback. Rocha acknowledged the team must own their mistakes and learn from them, but he remains confident about their chances this season.
"Everyone on the team feels happy when we play with great defensive stability," Rocha explained. "The more clean sheets we keep, the better. For us as defenders, this is very important because it's like a striker scoring a goal."
The Brazilian joined Al Jazira this season from Russian football and has been adapting well to his new environment. He says the football culture in the UAE is completely different from Russia, but the transition has been smooth and quick.
"Football here is totally different from Russia, and there are big cultural differences too," Rocha said. "But adapting was easy and fast. I feel good and in good physical condition, and I can help the club in the best possible way."
Two teammates have been particularly helpful in his adjustment. Veteran players Nabil Fekir and Mohamed Elneny provided full support during his early days at the club. Rocha especially connects with Fekir since they can communicate in Spanish, while he works on improving his English through lessons.
The defender feels he's become an important part of the team's setup. The understanding with his teammates makes it easier to execute the coach's game plan, and he sees every match as a chance to develop and learn more.
Al Jazira's fans have also impressed the Brazilian. He describes their support as incredible and says their constant backing pushes the players to perform better and work harder in training and matches.
Despite rumors about potential offers to return to Russian football, Rocha remains focused on his current mission. He has a two-year contract with Al Jazira and wants to give 100% during that period to win trophies and build his career with the Abu Dhabi club.
"In football, you can't predict the future," he said. "Right now, my job is to give everything for the next two years to win and achieve titles that will strengthen my journey with Al Jazira."
