Red Crescent Rushes Emergency Aid to Flood-Ravaged Philippines
The UAE Red Crescent has stepped up its humanitarian response to devastating floods that recently hit several regions in the Philippines, providing emergency aid to over 18,000 people. The assistance includes food supplies, health packages, shelter materials, clean drinking water, and personal hygiene products for the hardest-hit families in the Soccsksargen region on Mindanao island and the provinces of Sultan Kudarat and South Cotabato.
The organization sourced supplies from local Philippine markets and coordinated with the UAE mission in Manila to speed up delivery to affected areas. This approach helped them reach the most damaged regions quickly and efficiently.
The UAE Red Crescent emphasized that this relief effort reflects the country's humanitarian principles of solidarity with people during crises and disasters, regardless of ethnic, religious, or sectarian considerations. The organization said it remains committed to reducing human suffering and maintaining rapid response capabilities for emergency situations.
The floods were triggered by several days of heavy rainfall that caused widespread flooding and landslides across the Philippines. The disaster killed dozens of people and forced more than 80,000 residents to evacuate their homes. The flooding also caused severe damage to houses, bridges, schools, and agricultural land throughout the affected regions.
The UAE Red Crescent confirmed it will continue monitoring the humanitarian situation on the ground and plans to expand its operations to meet future needs as the recovery process unfolds. The organization's focus on sourcing materials locally not only ensures faster delivery but also supports the Philippine economy during this difficult period.
