Powering Ahead: Ajman to Unveil Electric Vehicle Charging Platform Soon
The UAE is launching its first electric vehicle charging hub in Ajman soon, featuring 10-15 charging stations with rest facilities where drivers can wait while their cars charge. The project will use fast chargers that can deliver significant battery power in just 10 minutes, with plans to expand the model across other emirates.
Sharif Al Ulama, Assistant Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, announced the initiative in partnership with Emirates EV Charging Company. The charging hub will include rest areas and facilities where users can spend time while their vehicles charge.
The 10-minute charging capability represents a major step forward for EV adoption in the region. Current charging times often take 30 minutes to several hours depending on the charger type and battery capacity. Fast charging technology could address one of the main barriers preventing consumers from switching to electric vehicles.
This move aligns with the UAE's broader push toward sustainable transportation and its Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative. The country has been working to build the infrastructure needed to support mass EV adoption, including charging networks and policy incentives.
For the automotive market, the expansion of charging infrastructure could accelerate EV sales in the Gulf region. Currently, range anxiety and limited charging options remain key concerns for potential EV buyers. But comprehensive charging networks with rest facilities could change that equation.
The government plans to roll out similar charging hubs in other cities and regions across the country after the Ajman pilot. This suggests a coordinated national approach rather than piecemeal development, which could create a more reliable charging network for long-distance travel between emirates.
