Partial Opening of Humaydiyah Bridge Boosts Accessibility in Ajman's Sheikh Zayed Street

The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure partially opened the Hamidiya Bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road in Ajman to traffic on Saturday. The 1,100-meter bridge features four lanes in each direction and aims to cut travel times by 60% while easing congestion on one of the emirate's busiest roads.

The project is part of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed's broader infrastructure initiatives. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Mansoori, the ministry's undersecretary, and Abdulrahman Al Nuaimi, director general of Ajman's Municipality and Planning Department, attended the opening ceremony.

The bridge represents a significant step in Ajman's infrastructure development plan. The emirate has been working to keep pace with rapid urban growth and increasing traffic volumes on Sheikh Zayed Road, a critical artery connecting residential and commercial areas.

Construction crews have completed the main bridge structure and overhead lighting systems. But work continues on lower-level intersections, sidewalks, parking areas, and rainwater drainage systems. The project also includes a connecting road from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, plus an additional bridge on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. Officials expect all construction to finish by the end of 2024.

The new infrastructure will improve access to several key areas, including the residential districts of Hamidiya and Rashidiya. It also provides better connections to vital facilities like Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Hospital, which is still under construction, and the Zayed Educational Complex in Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed City.

For commuters and businesses in Ajman, this bridge addresses a real problem. Sheikh Zayed Road carries heavy traffic between Dubai and the northern emirates, and bottlenecks have become increasingly common as the area develops. The 60% reduction in travel times could make a meaningful difference for daily commutes and commercial transport.
