Mbappe Reveals Real Madrid Move Helped Regain Equilibrium
Kylian Mbappé says his move to Real Madrid has helped him find his balance again. The French striker has scored 16 goals in just 14 games this season for club and country, failing to score in only one match. That's a stark contrast to his slow start last year when it took until mid-January to reach the same goal tally after joining from Paris Saint-Germain.
The 26-year-old credits his improved form to life away from France. "I've adapted well to Madrid, and I feel much more comfortable there," Mbappé told reporters ahead of France's World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan. "This isn't an attack on France, but the lifestyle is different and less exhausting than Paris. I've been able to regain my balance."
Mbappé's comments shed light on the intense pressure he faced during his final years at PSG. The media scrutiny and expectations in Paris appeared to weigh heavily on the forward, who became the face of French football at a young age. His move to Madrid seems to have provided the fresh start he needed.
The striker is also closing in on French football history. Last month, he surpassed Thierry Henry to become France's second-highest scorer with 52 international goals. He now has Olivier Giroud's record of 57 goals in his sights, though he's not obsessing over the milestone.
"I think I'll break the record. When? I don't know, I don't think about it," Mbappé said. "Maybe tomorrow, maybe later. The most important thing is qualifying for the World Cup, then it will come naturally."
Mbappé trained individually on Wednesday due to an ankle issue but declared himself ready for the Azerbaijan match. France sits at the top of Group 4 with an unbeaten record and looks set to secure their spot at the 2026 World Cup.
For Real Madrid, Mbappé's improved mental state and goal-scoring form represents exactly what they hoped for when they finally landed their long-term target. His seamless integration into Carlo Ancelotti's squad suggests the move benefits both player and club as they chase major trophies this season.
