Maryam Ali Kareem has made history by winning her third consecutive Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Cup for women's private stables endurance racing. Riding "Hamour Du Montel" for Al Kamda Stables, she completed the 120-kilometer race in 4:23:14 hours at Al Wathba, marking her fifth overall title in this prestigious competition.
The race drew 105 female riders from across the UAE, organized by the Emirates International Endurance Village in coordination with the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation. This annual event has become a showcase for women's participation in endurance racing, reflecting the UAE's broader commitment to empowering female athletes.
Kareem dominated the field with an average speed of 27.35 km/hour. Kawther Zaitoun, also representing Al Kamda Stables on "SM FA Juanita," finished second with a time of 4:31:46. Amna Al Balushi rounded out the podium in third place, riding "At Dale Range Kitty" for Al Maghaweer 2 Stables with a time just one second behind Zaitoun.
The competition's growth reflects the UAE's strategic investment in equestrian sports. With 105 participants, the event demonstrates how endurance racing has expanded beyond traditional boundaries to become a platform for female athletic achievement. Al Kamda Stables' dominance, securing both first and second places, highlights the importance of proper training facilities and horse breeding programs.
Muslim Al Ameri, Director General of the Emirates International Endurance Village, emphasized how the race strengthens the UAE's position in promoting women's competitive capabilities. The event serves as more than just a sporting competition - it represents the country's commitment to gender equality in athletics and preserves the cultural heritage of Arabian horsemanship.
The technical aspects of the race showcased international standards. Officials applied global best practices in organization, incorporating modern technology for timing and veterinary care. This attention to detail helps maintain the UAE's reputation as a premier destination for endurance racing events.
Corporate partnerships played a significant role in the event's success. Sponsors including Emirates Airlines, Ford Premier, Al Masaood Equipment Rental, and several local businesses supported the competition through innovative initiatives that engaged spectators and participants alike.
The ceremony featured high-profile officials including Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, President of the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, and Noura Al Suwaidi, Secretary General of the General Women's Union. Their presence underscored the institutional support behind women's equestrian sports in the Emirates.
Beyond the main competition, the event included cultural exhibitions featuring traditional products, children's entertainment, and sponsor pavilions. These activities help connect modern sporting events with UAE cultural traditions, creating a comprehensive experience for families and visitors.
Kareem expressed gratitude to Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak for her ongoing support of Emirati women in sports. This backing has been crucial in developing the infrastructure and opportunities that allow female riders to compete at international levels.
The success of this year's race sets the stage for continued growth in women's endurance racing. With strong institutional support, corporate partnerships, and growing participation rates, the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Cup has established itself as a cornerstone event in the UAE's sporting calendar.
