The UAE recorded its lowest temperature of the day at 17.5°C (63.5°F) on Friday morning, hitting the same mark at two different locations across the country. The National Center of Meteorology reported these readings from both a mountain peak and a coastal industrial area, showing how the country's diverse geography creates similar cooling patterns.
The temperature readings came from Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah at 5:30 AM and Barakah 2 in Al Dhafra region at 6:15 AM local time. Jebel Jais, the UAE's highest mountain peak, regularly records the country's coolest temperatures due to its elevation of nearly 2,000 meters above sea level.
Barakah 2, located in the western Al Dhafra region, sits near the coast where the UAE's nuclear power plant operates. The area often experiences cooler morning temperatures thanks to sea breezes and its position away from urban heat islands.
These morning lows reflect the UAE's winter weather patterns, where temperatures drop significantly during early morning hours before rising throughout the day. The country typically sees its coolest weather between December and February, with mountain areas and coastal regions often recording the lowest readings.
For residents and visitors, these temperature drops provide relief from the intense heat the UAE experiences during summer months, when temperatures can exceed 45°C. The winter season brings more comfortable conditions for outdoor activities and tourism, which peaks during these cooler months.
