Honoring the Fallen: Latifa Bint Mohammed Marks Martyrs' Day with Gratitude and Remembrance

Sheikh Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, head of Dubai's Culture and Arts Authority, marked the UAE's Commemoration Day by honoring the nation's fallen heroes. The annual observance serves as a moment for Emiratis to reflect on the sacrifices made by their military personnel who died defending the country's sovereignty and dignity.

Speaking about the significance of Commemoration Day, Sheikh Latifa described it as a time when citizens can hear "the echo of our heroes' footsteps as they walked with pride and dignity on the path of sacrifice for the nation's elevation." She emphasized how these soldiers answered their country's call, armed with conviction and unwavering courage.

The UAE established Commemoration Day in 2015 to honor military personnel who died in service, particularly those killed in overseas missions including operations in Yemen and Afghanistan. The day falls on November 30th each year, marking the date when the first Emirati soldier died in military service in 1971.

Sheikh Latifa highlighted how the martyrs' stories demonstrate that "glory can only be built through genuine sacrifices." She noted that their willingness to give their lives for their homeland came from values of honor and courage that the UAE instilled in them. In return, they showed complete loyalty and dedication to their country.

The commemoration also serves to recognize the families of fallen soldiers. Sheikh Latifa praised parents and relatives who raised these individuals with deep patriotic values and strong national loyalty. These families, she said, set remarkable examples of giving so that the UAE could remain secure and proud.
