Empowering Abu Dhabi's E-Scooter Riders: Tips for Safe and Responsible Use
Abu Dhabi police launched a field awareness campaign targeting electric scooter users on Abu Dhabi Island, working with the city's integrated transport center. The initiative comes as electric scooters become more popular but also create new safety challenges on the emirate's roads.
Colonel Suhail Sayah Al Mazrouei, director of traffic and security patrols in Abu Dhabi, said these efforts are part of a broader strategy to reduce traffic accidents. Electric scooters have gained popularity as a modern and fast transport option, but users need to follow traffic laws to keep themselves and others safe.
The campaign focuses on practical safety measures. Officers check that riders wear protective helmets, use designated lanes, and follow traffic rules. They also issue violations to those who break safety regulations that put people at risk.
Colonel Suhail Faraj Al Qabisi, deputy of security patrols affairs, explained that the initiative aims to boost road safety through educational guidance. The goal is to ensure safe driving practices that protect lives and property while reducing accidents and injuries.
Traffic enforcement teams took a two-pronged approach during the field operations. They educated non-compliant riders about the dangers of traffic violations. At the same time, happiness patrols distributed gifts to compliant scooter users to encourage continued adherence to traffic laws.
Major Khaled Mohammed Al Azizi, head of traffic enforcement, said field efforts concentrated on verifying that electric scooter users meet legal requirements. This includes wearing protective helmets, driving in designated paths, and addressing violations that threaten individual safety.
The participating agencies confirmed they will continue organizing these field initiatives regularly. The ongoing campaigns support efforts to raise traffic safety levels in the emirate and make roads safer for all community groups.
This safety push reflects Abu Dhabi's approach to managing new mobility trends. As cities worldwide grapple with integrating electric scooters into existing transport systems, Abu Dhabi is taking proactive steps to establish clear rules and enforcement mechanisms before problems escalate.
