Egypt's Al-Azhar Praises Leader's Support for Tolerance, Commends UAE's Efforts
The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed Al-Tayeb, met with UAE Ambassador to Cairo Hamad Obaid Al-Zaabi to discuss deepening cooperation between the prestigious Islamic institution and the Emirates. The meeting highlighted ongoing joint humanitarian and cultural initiatives, while emphasizing shared values of tolerance and human brotherhood that have shaped regional diplomacy.
During the meeting at Al-Azhar headquarters, Al-Tayeb praised the strong support provided by UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for Al-Azhar's mission. This partnership has produced several global humanitarian and cultural projects that extend beyond traditional religious cooperation.
The Grand Imam expressed his wishes for the ambassador's success in strengthening cooperation across scientific, cultural, and humanitarian fields. He noted how this collaboration reflects the UAE's consistent approach to promoting human brotherhood, tolerance, and positive coexistence.
Al-Tayeb specifically commended the UAE's continued support for the Palestinian people, describing it as an extension of the humanitarian legacy established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE's founding father.
Ambassador Al-Zaabi emphasized the UAE's appreciation for Al-Azhar's significant efforts in spreading authentic religious teachings and promoting tolerance culture. He expressed hope for enhanced bilateral cooperation and continued joint initiatives that serve humanitarian and developmental causes.
This meeting reflects broader regional trends where Islamic institutions and Gulf states are working together on soft power initiatives. Al-Azhar, as one of Sunni Islam's most authoritative institutions, provides religious legitimacy to diplomatic efforts, while the UAE offers financial resources and international networks.
The partnership between Al-Azhar and the UAE has practical implications for regional stability. Both entities have been active in promoting moderate Islamic discourse and countering extremist narratives across the Middle East and beyond. Their collaboration strengthens these efforts through educational programs and interfaith dialogue initiatives.
