Early Breast Cancer Screening Truck Launched in Abu Dhabi by 'Burjeel Oncology'
Burjeel Cancer Institute launched a mobile mammogram truck in Abu Dhabi to bring breast cancer screening directly to women across the emirate. The "Check for Life" campaign runs through October and November, targeting workplaces, shopping centers, and schools during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The mobile unit comes equipped with high-precision digital mammography equipment, allowing women to get screened without visiting a hospital. An all-female medical team specializes in breast imaging, which helps maintain privacy and comfort during examinations.
This initiative addresses a real barrier many women face - accessing regular breast cancer screening. Early detection remains one of the most effective ways to improve survival rates and reduce health risks associated with breast cancer.
The Abu Dhabi Department of Health and Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre are backing this campaign. The truck will travel throughout Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra regions, bringing screenings to educational institutions, business centers, and community locations.
Here's why this matters: breast cancer screening rates often drop when women have to take time off work or arrange childcare to visit medical facilities. Mobile screening units remove these obstacles by meeting women where they already are.
The timing coincides with Pink October, the global breast cancer awareness month, when health organizations worldwide ramp up education and screening efforts. But the campaign extends into November, giving more women opportunities to participate.
The campaign reflects a broader trend in healthcare delivery - bringing services to patients rather than waiting for patients to come to facilities. This approach particularly benefits working women and mothers who might otherwise skip routine screenings due to scheduling conflicts or transportation issues.
For women in Abu Dhabi, this represents free access to medical technology that typically requires hospital visits and appointment scheduling. The mobile mammogram truck creates a more accessible pathway to early detection, which medical experts consistently identify as the key factor in successful breast cancer treatment.
