Alberta Premier and Canada's Minister of Tourism and Economic Development Discuss Strengthening Cooperation
The UAE and Alberta, Canada are deepening their economic partnership with a focus on clean energy, food security, and emerging technologies. UAE Economy and Tourism Minister Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri met with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith at the "Investopia - Alberta" event in Calgary to explore new investment opportunities and strengthen business ties between the two regions.
The meeting brings together two regions with complementary economic strengths. Alberta is one of Canada's major energy and technology hubs, while the UAE continues expanding its global economic partnerships as part of its strategy to build a more diversified, sustainable economy.
Bin Touq emphasized that this cooperation aligns with the UAE's push toward new economy growth and sustainable development. "This meeting represents a new step in cementing the partnership between the UAE and Alberta," he said, noting that the Investopia platform provides practical opportunities to explore quality investments and launch innovative projects.
The discussions covered several key sectors where both regions see mutual benefit. Clean energy stands out as a major area of cooperation, along with food manufacturing technology, modern agriculture, digital technologies, and artificial intelligence. Space technology and advanced manufacturing also featured in the talks.
Premier Smith highlighted Alberta's potential for UAE partners, saying the province offers significant opportunities backed by strong fundamentals. "We share solid relations and constructive partnerships built on common aspirations and targets," she noted. "This opens wide horizons for cooperation in energy, food security, advanced technology, and emission reduction solutions."
For investors and businesses, this partnership signals growing opportunities in Canada's resource-rich western provinces. Alberta's established energy infrastructure and technological capabilities complement the UAE's position as a Middle Eastern business hub and gateway to emerging markets.
The meeting also focused on practical mechanisms to boost investment flows and share expertise in innovation and entrepreneurship. Both sides discussed ways to better connect their business communities with growth opportunities in fast-expanding markets.
This partnership reflects broader trends in international trade, where countries are seeking to diversify their economic relationships beyond traditional partners. The UAE's strategy of building ties with resource-rich regions like Alberta helps secure supply chains while offering Canadian businesses access to Middle Eastern and Asian markets.
