Al-Ahly's Triumphant Super Egypt Display Outmatches Zamalek in Abu Dhabi
Al Ahly claimed their fifth consecutive Egyptian Super Cup title with a 2-0 victory over arch-rivals Zamalek at Abu Dhabi's Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium. The win extends Al Ahly's dominance in Egyptian football and marks their 16th Super Cup trophy, cementing their status as the country's most successful club in this competition.
More than 30,000 fans packed the stadium to witness the latest chapter in Egyptian football's biggest rivalry. The match lived up to expectations, with Al Ahly controlling the first half while Zamalek fought back strongly after the break.
The opening goal came with perfect timing just before halftime. Moroccan winger Ashraf Ben Sharqi, who previously played for Zamalek before joining Al Ahly, capitalized on a defensive mistake by Mohamed Ismail in the 44th minute. Ben Sharqi fired a difficult shot past Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Awad to give his team the lead.
Al Ahly dominated possession in the first half, forcing Zamalek to sit deep and defend. But the White Knights came out fighting after the break. Coach Ahmed Abdel Raouf made attacking substitutions that nearly paid off, with Zamalek creating several good chances to equalize.
Just when it looked like Zamalek might find their way back into the game, Al Ahly struck again. Marwan Attia sealed the victory in the 71st minute, converting a cross from Taher Mohamed Taher during a well-organized counter-attack.
Zamalek thought they had pulled one back when Seif El Jaziry found the net, but VAR intervened to disallow the goal for handball. The decision effectively ended Zamalek's hopes of mounting a comeback.
This victory continues Al Ahly's recent dominance over their traditional rivals and adds another trophy to their impressive collection. For Zamalek, it's another disappointment in a fixture that has increasingly favored their Cairo neighbors in recent years.
